Introduction to Advanced Addressable Fire Systems
Advanced — specifically the MxPro 5 platform — is the panel of choice on UK and Irish projects where the customer wants a single panel that can run any of the major device protocols. This section introduces the platform and the architectural choices it offers.
Why Advanced
The lessons cover the headline feature of MxPro 5: protocol-flexible loop cards that let you run Apollo, Hochiki, Argus or Nittan devices on the same panel by swapping the loop card. For multi-tenant retrofits where existing devices come from multiple manufacturers, this is the only panel that does the job without ripping everything out. Networking up to 200 panels via AdvancedNet is the other big draw on campus and estate-scale projects.
Where it fits
You will learn the typical Advanced site profile (mid-to-large commercial, healthcare, education, multi-tenant retrofit), the model lineup (MxPro 5 in 1 / 2 / 4 / 8 loop variants, plus the EvacGo voice-evacuation variant), and the engineer-tool ecosystem (PC-NET, DynamixTools).
Pre-requisites and next steps
You should already understand addressable-loop fundamentals before starting on Advanced. The next module — Advanced Fire Panel Programming — covers building configuration in PC-NET, and the troubleshooting work has its own section. The full curriculum, including the latest panel firmware notes, is the Advanced MxPro course on bhcourses.com.
